Jane's walk Kodeljevo - yearly meetings
Jane's walk Kodeljevo
Jane’s Walks are approximately an hour and a half long guided walks through city neighborhoods that raise awareness of the importance of walking for everyday errands and highlight the impact that pedestrians can have on urban planning. They are designed to connect residents with their neighbors and the neighborhood, and to foster a sense of belonging to the area they live in. At the same time, the walks provide an opportunity to discuss the problems residents face on a daily basis and to develop initiatives to make neighborhoods more attractive and livable.
Every year, on a walk through Kodeljevo, we explore the planning, urban planning and architectural solutions that have marked the Kodeljevo neighborhood in the past (such as the excavation of a new Ljubljanica riverbed and the arrangement of the Grubar Canal) and solutions that may mark life in the neighborhood in the future (superblock, street arrangement and the planned redevelopment of Ob Ljubljanica Street), while observing and reflecting on less than optimal solutions of the present – total traffic chaos near DIF, shortcuts and parking problems.
You are invited to join us and together we can analyze, reflect and find better solutions for sustainable coexistence!

What topics do we cover?
Walkability analysis
In order for walking to be effective at appropriate distances or in its recreational and social function, cities, or individual parts of them, must be friendly and suitable for walking.
Participants in the walks see for themselves how valuable it is to cultivate the walkability of a space, to take care of safe, maintained and interesting arrangements and programs, and to cultivate a sense of belonging to their living environment through the creation of initiatives for change and direct participation in the arrangement. Participants in the walks learn to distinguish good from bad arrangements and to create initiatives for change.
Getting to know your neighbors and sharing experiences
The walks are designed to encourage conversations about neighborhoods and the ways people use cities. It is about exchanging interesting information between natives and new residents of the neighborhood, as well as sharing opinions and stories about the shared environment.
Jane’s walk Kodeljevo also includes co-guided walking with co-guides, as this broadens our horizons.
We start by introducing all participants, thus establishing a friendly atmosphere.
Preparation of initiatives and proposals for improvement
Whether they are satisfied or critical, residents are well aware of the liveliness of their neighborhood. Connecting residents in caring for the conditions in the neighborhood and in development discussions with the City of Ljubljana is part of the activities after the event.
The organization of the walk thus becomes an advocate for local interests, while communicating initiatives and informal discussions.
In 2025, residents submitted 14 suggestions for improvements, of which 12 were taken into account and/or already implemented.
